Carl A. Hummel, age 90, died June 24, 2011, at St. Joseph Medical Center. He was born on September 27, 1920, in Kansas City, Missouri. He lived in the greater Kansas City area for his entire life. He practiced as an attorney for forty-one years. In 1989, he retired as a partner from the law firm now known as Lathrop and Gage. Carl was an infantry officer in World War II, serving with training commands in the States at the beginning of the war. He then served in the 97th Infantry Division in Europe and later as a military government officer in Japan. During his legal career he was active in the American Bar, the Missouri Bar, Lawyers Association of Kansas City, and Association of Kansas City Hospital Attorneys. He was also a volunteer in the Boy Scouts of America, Salvation Army, Law Foundation for U.M.K.C., and the Downtown Optimist Club. He received his bachelor's degree in economics and law degree from U.M.K.C. He is survived by his sons Gary and Stephen, and four grandchildren-Carolyn, Cathryn, David, and Matthew Hummel. His sister, Ann Winningham, also survives him. He was a member of the Church of the Nativity. The family plans a memorial service at a later date.
