Carl Carter

February 11, 1943 — December 1, 2018

Carl D. Carter, 75, of Overland Park, KS, passed away, Saturday December 1, 2018, peacefully at home, surrounded by his family.

Carl was born in Springfield, Missouri on February 11, 1943.  He was the seventh child out of eight children born to Erven Elmer Carter and Orpha Dolores (Daily) Carter.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Jones); daughter: Angie, Overland Park, KS; two sons: Kenny of the home and Chris, Olathe, KS; two grandchildren: Brian Carter, Olathe, KS and Miranda Mansell of Kansas City, MO; and one great grandchild, Keagan Carter of Olathe, KS and many nieces and nephews.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents,  three brothers: Claude Thomas Carter, Pharr, TX, Elmer Ray Carter, Rogersville, MO, and Edward Wayne Carter of Adrian, MO; and four sisters: Bessie Burrows, North Bend, OR, Alma Andrews, San Jose, CA, Elsie Kay Carter, Springfield, MO, and Brenda Laird, Springfield, MO.

Carl met his “Sweet Pat” in high school at Miller, Mo.  She was 13 and he was 17.  They were good friends and began dating after high school.  Six months later they were married and eloped because he was leaving for the Army the next week.  They were happily married for fifty-three years.

Carl served in the 29th Engineer Battalion and was very fortunate to spend that time in Hawaii with his wife, Pat, and their son Kenny.

Carl had a long career in the graphic arts industry.  He worked many years as a scanner operator for Chromagraphics.

Carl loved history and politics and read the newspaper front-to-back every day.  He loved oldies music and Carl and Pat’s favorite song was “I’ll Remember you” by Don HO and Elvis Presley.  Carl was a romantic and sang that song better than both of them!  He had the sweetest smile and laugh.  We will miss him dearly.
