Carl F. Wells, 88, of Overland Park, KS passed away Wednesday, June 10, 2009. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Monday, June 15 at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 10100 Metcalf. Friends may call on the family one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Burial will be at Wesley Chapel Cemetery in Willard, MO. Memorial contributions may be given to the church.
Mr. Wells was born May 26, 1921 in Clever, MO but moved to Springfield, Mo for his schooling and graduated from Southwest Missouri State University in 1943. Immediately after graduation, he entered World War II, serving with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Manila, Philippine Islands where he was responsible for charting the Bataan Death March map that was instrumental for the War Crimes Trial. Upon his discharge, he began working for International Harvester and for the next 36 years, worked at Springfield, Mo, Kansas City, KS, Memphis, TN, and Canton, IL before becoming manager at St. Paul, MN and then Clearfield, UT. He returned to Kansas City in 1973 and retired in 1982.
He was a member and deacon of the Emmanuel Baptist Church, Overland Park, KS.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Jane, of 60 years; 2 daughters, Jan Husband and her husband, Dwight of Atlanta, GA and Nancy Herrmann and her husband, Jeff of Leawood, KS and 5 grandchildren, Tyler and Jordan Herrmann, Graham, Sydney and Shelby Husband. Also surviving are 2 sister-in-laws, June Holman and her husband, Bill of Springfield, MO and Carolyn Wells of Columbia, MO.
