Carlos Alberto Lotito, M.D., 88, of Overland Park passed peacefully surrounded with endless love and with his family by his side on December 20, 2017. He is survived by his wife Hilda, daughter Patricia Lefler, son-in-law Todd Lefler and his two grandsons, Kyle Lefler and Ryan Lefler. He was a beloved husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, uncle, friend and doctor.
Carlos was born in 1929 and grew up in Buenos Aires, Argentina. There he studied Medicine and met his wife Hilda. After completing medical school and getting married, the two left their family and friends, so that Carlos could follow his dream of practicing medicine in the United States. He completed his Internal Medicine residency in Kansas; followed by a Fellowship in Oncology and Hematology at Ohio State.
Carlos practiced medicine for over 40 years. He was known as a dedicated, loving and caring doctor who helped not only his patients, but their families as well. During his years in practice, he was available to all his patients 24-7. Patients and their families called him directly at home with questions any time and any day of the week. A patient was never turned away, even if they couldn’t pay. When he retired, he sent each patient a letter with his home phone number and address, so that they could contact him with any questions they might have regarding their health. Following his retirement patients continued to call him for years seeking out second opinions.
For Carlos his family meant the world to him. This past October, Carlos and Hilda celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Together they traveled the world, attended events and even danced the Tango for a room full of Generals in Fort Leavenworth. For years, they sponsored foreign military families while they were stationed at Fort Leavenworth. His daughter Patricia was the apple of his eye. The two of them had a very special bond unlike no other. He said his son-in-law was like a son to him and his grandsons were his whole life. If there were a Grandfather Hall of Fame, Carlos would most definitely be in it. Rain or shine, there was not a place he did not take the boys or an event he did not attend with them. Every summer he took the entire family to the beach for 2 weeks. He was always there to lend an ear, provide advice or share a laugh with any member of the family or with any friend.
Carlos had a love for soccer, especially when Argentina played. His dream was to see Argentina win the World Soccer Cup again. This summer they play again and we are sure he will be watching and guiding them to victory from Heaven.
A loving, generous, caring, dedicated and intelligent man – A private service was held for Carlos on Friday, December 29th at the Johnson County Memorial Chapel and Gardens. – We love you!!
