Carol Cox

August 12, 1950 — January 7, 2022

Overland Park, Kansas

Carol Jeanne Cox died on January 7, 2022, in her home in Overland Park, Kansas.  Carol was born on August 12, 1950, in Midland, Texas, where she grew up.  In November 1969, while attending Texas Tech University, she met James Cox on a blind date.  Carol and James were married on January 2, 1971, in Midland, Texas, and then moved to Overland Park, Kansas, where they resided until Carol’s death.  Jennifer Lynn Dillbeck, their only child, was born on January 7, 1974.

Both James and Carol were members of the Overland Park Church of Christ for 40 years and then Southpoint Church of Christ to the present.  Throughout her time at both, Carol focused her time and energy on encouraging people in their faith as well as their relationships.  From teaching Sunday school (in person and on Zoom) and hosting Christmas parties with her students, to enabling the deaf community with the ability to join in the hearing worship, fellowship together, and learn and worship in their own language, to setting up luncheons and coffee groups to help women meet and establish relationships outside of the church setting, Carol was always looking for ways and common interests to bring people closer to other people and God.

Carol cherished her granddaughters and nurtured them from the time they were born and loved attending all the events they participated in as they grew up.  She was proud of their many achievements and their growing faith in God.  She also loved time spent at The Branch - on the gator, mowing in her zero-turn riding mower, lopping branches, clearing trails, doing projects with her granddaughters and especially hosting people and groups in the midst of God’s beauty.

Carol is survived by her husband James, her daughter Jennifer Dillbeck and her husband Brian Dillbeck, three granddaughters, Sierra, Chloe and Genevieve, her brother Warren, Jr. and his wife Gloria, and her brother David and his wife Connie.  She was preceded in death by her nephew, Warren L. Chapman, III.

In lieu of flowers, Carol requested that donations be made to the Southpoint Church of Christ Women’s Ministry to enable women of all ages to come together to grow in their faith through fellowship
