Carol Owings

Carol J. Owings, 86, of Leawood, KS passed away peacefully at her home on December 8, 2017.  She was born on January 21, 1931 in Alexander, KS to Orlando J. and Belle Durand.  She was blessed to belong to a large and loving family where she was second youngest of eleven.  After graduating from high school in Great Bend, Carol moved to Kansas City to work and then married H. Dale Owings - a partnership that lasted 61 years prior to his passing in 2013.

After raising her children, Greg and Lori, Carol worked in two medical practices for 38 years. She was an active member of the Church of the Resurrection since its inception participating in many committees and bible study groups. Her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and entire extended family were at the centerpiece of her life.  She also enjoyed her many bridge groups, great friends and travels.

A beloved wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend, Carol is preceded in death by her parents, many siblings, husband, Dale, and son, Greg.  She is survived by her sisters, Glenna House and Joyce Reading, daughter Lori (Michael) Mulhern, daughter-in-law, Anita Owings, four grandchildren; Matthew (Jessica) and Collin Owings, Connor and Meghan Mulhern and two great-granddaughters; Georgia and Hunter Owings.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 18, 2017 at the Church of the Resurrection, Wesley Covenant Chapel, Building C, 13720 Roe Avenue, Leawood, KS.  The family will greet friends immediately following the service in the Student Center.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1100 Pennsylvania Avenue, Kansas City, MO, 64105.
