Carole Jane Dameron Johnson, 90, passed away on February 3, 2025. Born 12/18/34 to parents Joseph Dysart Dameron and Sara Jane Quick; Preceded in death by both parents, and brothers Joseph Dean and Dale Dameron. Carol was born and raised in a solid Midwestern Baptist family. Family and friends activities were the norm around the Dameron household. Growing up she was particularly fond of her grandfather Charles Sprague Dameron. Charles lived with the Dameron’s in his later years, coming within two weeks of his 100th birthday. Carole was an exceptional student at Paseo HS. Being welcomed into The National Honor Society, presiding over The Zetas and her senior year commencement speech were a small sampling of her achievements. She attended William Jewel College, from which she graduated in 1957. She was a proud member of the Beta Sig Omicron Sorority. Her childhood thru teen age years included piano lessons that ultimately led to her becoming an accomplished pianist and organist. She played both instruments at Michigan Ave., Baptist Church and later at Noland Rd. Baptist Church. While attending William Jewel, Carole met G.M. (Mike) Johnson. Story has it that she tutored Mike through French classes. She must have succeeded as Mike passed his French class and they were wed shortly after both graduated. They had one son, Joe Johnson, whom in her eyes could do no wrong. Carole and Mike (now deceased) provided for a wonderful upbringing for their son.
She was a career public school teacher, serving at Center HS and Oak Park HS. Her English courses at Oak Park were highly sought after by students. Go figure. One of her claims to fame was allowing students to grade themselves at semester end. Very rarely did she need to “adjust” grades. Carole was an adamant fan of KC Royals baseball, KC Chiefs football and all things University of Kansas Jayhawks.
Carole will most certainly be received by a heavenly host of friends and relations that have passed on before, while her passing leaves behind her son Joe and his wonderful wife and forever companion Yvonne Johnson; Grandson Jeremy Johnson and Granddaughter Paige (Joe) Sublette and Great Granddaughter Wren Marie Sublette; sister in-law Marilyn Dameron Bruflat and Nephew Mike (Lynn) Dameron and Niece Sue (Stan) Worthley; Cousin Dee (Leroy) Harryman; and the many remaining family members afar.
Our heartfelt thanks goes out to the care staff of The Atriums Senior Living Community as well as all at Ascend Hospice. Please know that the comfort you have provided was much appreciated thru difficult times. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to Ascend Health – Hospice Care.
