Carolyn was the daughter of Jewel Vivian and Howard J. Griffith. She lived in Kansas City, Missouri throughout her school years. Carolyn loved music and was an accomplished accordion and marimba player. She played recitals as soloist, and in large marimba ensembles with her sister in the Kansas City area during her school years. She and her sister Judi also played accordion duets. Carolyn was so good at the accordion her music teacher had her do some teaching for him when she got to high school. She and Judi also played their accordions on the KOZY radio station. At the age of 14, she met Ed Ammon. They began dating and he carried her marimba to her concerts. After graduation, Carolyn married the love of her life, Ed, on July 28, 1951, in Kansas City, Missouri. They lived in Kansas City, then Mississippi and Florida while Ed was in the Air Force, and then settled in Kansas City, Missouri after Ed left the service.
Carolyn loved to paint and attend musicals and concerts. She continued to listen and love music until her final days. In her earlier years, she was on a bowling team and played tennis. She was a volunteer at Milburn Country Club for many years.
Carolyn and Ed had four children: Terri, David, Jeff and Diane. Carolyn’s priority was her husband and children. She was generous, giving and always made sure her family was taken care of. She was a lady, a gentle woman and a large giver of love. Carolyn was the peacemaker, always forgiving, and always tried to see the good in everyone. Her biggest achievement was her family. Her biggest disappointment and hurt in life was losing her son, Jeff, at the age of 42 to ALS.
She was predeceased by: her parents; her loving husband, Eddie; and her beloved son, Jeff. Carolyn is survived by: her daughters, Terri (Darrell), Diane (Skip), and son, David; eight grandchildren: Stacy (Mike) Napier, Matt George, Dan (Christine) Ammon, Aaron and Garrett Ammon, Clarke (Tarin) Conroy, Colin Herbold, Baylor and Noland Ammon, TJ (Alyx) Fenton, Morgan (Cam) Lewellen, and Jake Boyd; seven great grandchildren: Angie Bradfield, Jazmyne George, Kaleigh Conroy, Kansas Conroy, Knox Conroy, and Frankie Ammon; two great great granddaughters: Isis and Amiyah Omoruyi; Carolyn’s sister, Judi (Jem) and brother-in-law Doug (Lynda).
Thank you to Senior Care Homes, The Nantucket House at 15100 England, Overland Park, KS, for taking special care of Carolyn. This home was particularly special because it was a few houses down from the house she and Ed built in the 1970’s, a special home giving special care.
