Carolyn Sue Emery, 66, passed peacefully into the Lord's hands at her home on Saturday, November 3, 2012. Carolyn was born August 31, 1946, to Carl and Vera Orr, who preceded her in death. She grew up in Mission, Kansas and graduated from Shawnee Mission North High School in 1964. In 1968, Carolyn graduated from the University of Missouri at Kansas City with a degree in Business Administration. She began working for the General Services Administration (GSA) as an auditor in the months following graduation. The majority of Carolyn's 30-plus years in Federal civil service were spent as the Regional Inspector General for Auditing for GSA. While at the GSA's Bannister Complex, Carolyn met the love of her life, Alan. They were married on June 28, 1975 and began a life of shared joy as they built a home, traveled, and expanded their circle of close and loving friends. In September, 2001, Carolyn retired from Federal service so that she and Alan could devote more time to the things they enjoyed doing together. Carolyn was known for her gourmet cooking and she delighted in tweaking and perfecting recipes she found. She spent many happy hours in the gardens surrounding their home. She loved the ocean and her favorite travel destination was Puerto Vallarta, Mexico during the Kansas City winters. Carolyn is survived by her husband, Alan; her brother, Larry Orr; 3 nieces, 1 nephew and her beloved dog, BeVe. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 6th 6-8 p.m. at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS. Services will be Wednesday, November 7th at 10 a.m. at United Methodist Church of the Resurrection, Wesley Covenant Chapel (East Bldg), 135th and Roe, Leawood, KS. Donations to Heartland Hospice or your favorite charity in Carolyn's name are suggested in lieu of flowers.
