Carolyn Perkins, nee Gregory, was born on August 21, 1927 in Woodston, KS. She moved to Osborne as a young girl where she lived until she graduated from High School in 1945. Carolyn attended Washburn University, graduating in 1950, where she earned a BA degree. While at Washburn she met her husband of 53 years, Floyd Perkins, whom she married on Oct 30, 1954. After graduation she undertook additional training and became a member of the American Society of Medical Technologists in June of 1951. She subsequently worked at both Stormont-Vale hospital in Topeka, KS and the Statland clinic in Kansas City.
Her first child, Suzy, was born in 1959, with Mike and Kelly following in 1961 and 1970. She had five grandchildren: Josh, Kelly, Zach, Steffi, and Mindy. Her volunteer activities included serving as a girlscout leader, working at the Johnson County Historical Museum, and participating in the Shawnee Mission East band boosters. Carolyn was particularly proud of her participation on a citizen’s committee that helped bring recycling to Overland Park.
In addition to supporting her husband and raising three successful children, Carolyn willingly accepted the role of caregiver which fell to her repeatedly during her life: for her sister Ada when she had cancer, for her mother and mother-in-law when they moved in as seniors, for her homebound next-door neighbor, and for her disabled niece.
Carolyn loved Jayhawks basketball and the Kansas City sports teams. She enjoyed world travelling with Floyd, learning about anything and everything, mystery novels, crossword puzzles, and collecting recipes. She is fondly remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She will be missed by all those who knew her.
