Our mother, Carolyn Stover, quietly left us on July 19th at the age of 94. A long-time resident of Wichita, KS, she and her husband of 66 years, George Stover, moved to Brookdale Place in Overland Park, KS in 2007, where they became active members in their new community. She not only served for several years on the Residents’ Board as the President and Treasurer, but also created and directed the Brookdale chorus for more than 10 years.
Carol’s passing is preceded by George and her sister, Roberta. She is survived by her son, Ron Stover, and her daughter, Denise (Stover) Bade, as well as Ron’s wife, Stephanie, their children, Morgan and Dylan Stover, Denise’s husband, Bill Bade, and their children, Austin, Isabella and Sophia Bade. She is also survived by her grandson, Chris Stover, his wife, Nicole, and great-grandsons, Knox and Reid Stover. She will also be missed and remembered by several nieces and nephews.
Born on June 1, 1925 in Adel, Iowa, Carolyn Marie DeCamp was the second child of Bert and Eva DeCamp. Carol’s love of music and singing led her to the Chicago Conservatory of Music where she earned her degree and met our father. She made a career with George as professional singers and as a church soloist.
In addition to her loving, lifelong devotion as a wife, mother and grandmother, Carolyn also worked in public relations for the Music Theater of Wichita, and as a volunteer Junior Golf organizer at the MacDonald Park Golf Course in Wichita.
She loved golf almost as much as the time she spent with her family sailing and camping. She loved to travel, cook for her family and friends, and spent countless hours in the pool swimming laps.
Always with a great sense of humor, Carol loved to laugh. She was a little woman with a big personality, quick wit, and an opinion she was willing to share with a smile. She was loved and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
