Carolyn Wright

December 15, 1935 — December 23, 2019

Carolyn Beth Wright of Prairie Village, Kansas entered into eternity on December 23, 2019 at Stratford Commons Memory Care. Funeral services will be held Friday December 27th at 2:00 at Johnson County Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park, Kansas. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wayside Waifs or Friends of the Zoo KC.

Carolyn was born on December 15, 1935 in Kansas City, MO to Mildred W and Arthur L Johnson. She was raised in Johnson County and attended Shawnee Mission North High School. At the age of 18, she became a bookkeeper at KCKN Radio Station in Kansas City, MO. From there, she went into the Ladies Ready to Wear business at Gordons in Roeland Park, KS. Later she worked for Pete Potters in Prairie Village which was purchased by Adlers in 1960. Carolyn became the store manager at Adlers until 1974. During her time at Adlers, she was proud of the fact that she had outfitted Miss Kansas, who later went on to become Miss America. She was also one of the founders of the Prairie Village Art Fair. Following her marriage to John R. Wright, Sr., she became his business partner and office manager for John Wright Construction until after his passing in 1997.

Carolyn had a love of nature and feeding birds. Her life wasn’t complete without her love of animals. She cared for many pets, dogs and cats, who she looks forward to seeing again. She loved working in her yard and had many gardens. She also had a deep love of music as well as spending time with her great grandchildren.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, her former husband Stanley Kohn in 1974 and husband John R Wright, Sr. in 1997. She was also proceeded in death by her two sisters, Charline Slason and Shirley Jo Quick.

She is survived by her brother, Norman Johnson (Madonna), numerous nieces and nephews, step-children and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. John & Vickie Wright and Shonda Dietz would like to extend a very special gratitude to friend and caregiver, Lisa Darling, as well as the staff at Stratford Commons, for their compassionate care.
