Carroll Eugene Toll, of Overland Park, passed away on Saturday, October 10, 2015 at the age of 85 in Bickford of Overland Park.
Mr. Toll was born June 13, 1930 in Osceola, Iowa to Helen Josephine Toll. He graduated from Derby High School in 1949 and then joined the U.S. Navy, serving as an aircraft mechanic on the aircraft carrier USS Lake Champlain in the Mediterranean Sea. He married Virginia Ann Herring on July 16, 1951 in Des Moines, Iowa. They moved from Iowa to Overland Park with their two sons in 1962 when Mr. Toll began his career with the U.S. Postal Service. He retired from the Brookridge Post Office in Overland Park in 1990.
Mr. Toll was active in Boy Scouts of America, serving as assistant scoutmaster, then scoutmaster for Troop 392 when his sons were involved in scouting. He was recognized on numerous occasions for his countless volunteer hours at the Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Gardens. He was an active member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Overland Park for over 50 years.
Mr. Toll is survived by his loving wife Virginia of Overland Park, sons Ralph (Carol) Toll of Plano, TX and Paul (Kate) Toll of Overland Park, granddaughters Jessica Toll of Overland Park and Vanessa (Nick) Wuesthoff of South Bend, IN, great-grandson James Rosenzweig of Overland Park, great-granddaughter Brooklynn Wuesthoff of South Bend, IN, cousins Merle (Judy) Joy of Bellefonte, PA, Shirley Fouch of Osceola, IA, Donnabell (Kenneth) Graham of Humeston, IA, and DeAnn Lugar of Greenville, TX. He is additionally survived by brother-in-law Earl (Joan) Herring of Brillion, WI, sister-in-law Alice Herring of Chariton, IA, nephews Dan (Debbie) Herring of Wayland, IA, Mike (Donna) Herring of Lisbon, IA, David (Coreen) Herring of Carlisle, IA, Joel (Becky) Herring of Mosinee, WI, Rick (Sue) Herring of La Habra, CA and Casey (Janet) Herring of San Clemente, CA, nieces Julie (Jim) Kordick of Norwalk, IA, Kim (Bryan) Koss of Madison, WI, and Jenny Herring of La Habra, CA.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 14, 2015, at 12:30pm in the parlor at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 6422 Santa Fe Drive, Overland Park, KS, 66202. The funeral service will follow at 1:30pm in the church sanctuary, officiated by Pastor Cheryl Somers-Ingersol. Interment will be at Johnson County Memorial Gardens, 11200 Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park, KS, 66210 after the service.
