Catherine Stephens

Catherine “Kitty” Stephens, age 94, of Prairie Village, KS passed away on November 1, 2014 at her children’s home from natural causes.
Kitty was born in Dallas, TX to Katherine and Lucian Dowd. She was an accomplished dancer and singer as well as the first City Clerk of Prairie Village although her preferred job title was homemaker. She married the love of her life, Ellis Stephens, in 1940 and enjoyed 54 years of marriage. They had 4 children. Family was the focus of her life.
She was very beloved and nicknamed Cat Eyes by her classmates which later turned into Kitty. She was well known for entertaining and cooking. She was said to have the best potato salad in all of Johnson County and her stuffed squash was featured on the cover in the KC Star food section. She was active in many church and community organizations.
Kitty was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, and two eldest children. She is survived by her children John Stephens and Katherine Aaronson; granddaughter and namesake Catherine Aaronson; granddaughter Courtney Kirk, husband Sam and their two children Charlotte and Arthur.
A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, November 5, at the Johnson County Chapel at College and Metcalf. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, November 6, also at the chapel. Friends and family will gather for the celebration of her life afterward at the family home.
