CALDWELL Charles "Chuck" Wellington Caldwell of Lenexa, Kansas, passed away at Shawnee Mission Medical Center on January 19, 2010. He was 66 years old, having been born on February 13, 1943. He was preceded in death by his father Charles (who was also 66 at the time of his death), and mother Maxine. Survivors include two sons; Christopher Caldwell, his wife, Alicia, and daughter Caylen; Ryan Caldwell, his wife, Cynthia, and children Logan and Sage; and sister, Julie Rankin-Stubbs of Macon, GA. Doreen T. Caldwell and Debbie Hoover, along with stepchildren Stephanie and Keith Hoover, were also very important and loved by Chuck. Chuck grew up in Exeter, NH, with the family eventually moving to NY, where he attended Nyack High School. Following graduation, he attended Clarkson School of Technology (on an ice hockey scholarship). He later served as an air traffic controller in the Air Force. He and Doreen moved to the KC area in 1982, where they raised their sons, and Chuck expanded his career in the appliance industry. He also coached his two sons, both scholarship NCAA Division 1 tennis players. Chuck loved the outdoors, working on cars, sports, his appliance work, competitive tennis, and his beloved dog, Nicki. He was always available to assist others and offer a helping hand. His tennis game was sharp and strategic, outplaying competitors decades younger. He shared his love of tennis by coaching and mentoring anyone who demonstrated an interest in the game - as long as they were willing to work hard and follow his "development plan." He will be missed as a father, grandfather, brother, uncle, coach, tennis analyst, and friend. He now has courtside seats at every tennis Grand Slam. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 22, 2010, at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Avenue. A memorial service for family and close friends will be held at the same location on Saturday, January 23, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial contributions to the Missouri Valley Tennis Foundation, 8676 W 96th Street, Suite 100, Overland Park, KS 66212.
