Charles Robert Carr, 94, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather passed away on December 30, 2014. He was a resident of Aberdeen Village in Olathe Kansas.
Charlie was a 1937 Graduate of Westport High School and a 1942 graduate of the University Of Kansas School Of Journalism. He married his lifelong partner Joanne Bray in 1943. She and their oldest daughter Pamela Sue Carr preceded him in death.
Charlie was a talented graphic designer and artist. During his long career he worked as an artist for Hallmark and as an Account Executive for the Kansas City Star. He also worked as an Advertising Manager and Creative Director at The Missouri Department Store, Gorman’s Department Store, Macy’s, Trainor Advertising, John Ray Advertising, and National Bellas Hess. In 1974 he formed his own advertising agency, Charles R Carr Advertising.
For over 50 years he was a member of Cherokee Christian Church in Prairie Village where he served in multiple leadership roles and taught an adult Sunday school class for over 20 years.
He will be lovingly remembered for his joyful good humor, his quiet wisdom, his love of British sports cars, and his impromptu piano and organ stylings.
Survivors include a daughter, Viki White (Gordon Davis) of Portland Oregon, and a son, Rev. Rob Carr (Kathy) of Lenexa Kansas. Four grandchildren, Adam Carr (Meg) of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Dr. Allison Carr (Jon Welch) of Cedar Rapids Iowa, Abigail Carr of Helena, Arkansas and Taylor Carr of Manhattan, Kansas. Charlie was just beginning to know his two great grandsons, Coleman Robert Carr and Marshall Etheridge Carr of Minneapolis.
Visitation at the Johnson County Chapel, 112th and Metcalf, 10AM Friday, January 9, followed by a celebration of his life at 11AM. Burial immediately following at Johnson County Memorial Gardens.
