Charles Eberly

Charles D. Eberly, 89, of Olathe, KS, passed away Oct. 29th, 2015.  Born July 4, 1926 in Rochester, NY, he was the son of C. Harry and Gertrude M. Eberly of Honeoye Falls, NY.  He graduated from Honeoye Falls High School on June 25, 1944.
Charles served in the U.S. Navy during WWII from 1944 to 1946.  He served on the aircraft carrier USS Antietam CV-36 in the South Pacific, and then in the Yellow Sea after the surrender of Japan.  He also served during the Korean War.
Charles graduated from Park College in 1950 with a BA in Economics.  While at Park he met his future wife, Marcia Rader.  They were married on December 22, 1949, at the bride’s home.  They had a son, Chris born Feb. 7, 1955, and a daughter Ann born July 5, 1957.
He was employed at the Jones Store Company in 1952 and retired in 1987 as Corporate Controller.  He also served as Assistant Secretary of Mercantile Stores Company, home office of the Jones Store Company in New York.
He was a past Director of Junior Achievement as well as past President and member of the Board of Directors of the Heart of America Retail Controllers Association.  He was also a member of the Kansas City Chamber of Commerce, the Merchants Association and past member of Rotary Club 13.  He received the Paul Harris Fellowship Award from the Rotary International, and he was an active member of the American Philatelist Society.
Charles was elected as a Deacon in the Overland Park Presbyterian Church, elected as an Elder in the Shawnee Presbyterian Church, and was a member of the Grace Covenant Church at the time of his death.  His interests included stamp collecting, golf, travel, fishing and the KC Chiefs and Royals.
Charles is survived by his wife, Marcia; his son, Chris; his daughter, Ann; and his grandchildren; Karen, Susan, Mitchell, and Nathan.  The memorial service will be held at the Aberdeen Village Chapel in Olathe, Kansas on Monday, November 2 at 2:00 PM.  Memorial contributions may be made to Aberdeen Village, the Samaritan fund, 17500 W. 119th St., Olathe KS 66061
