Charles (Charlie) Herbert Hayden, Jr., 75, of Overland Park Kansas, passed away April 8th, 2007, at his home surrounded by his family.
Charlie was born March 24, 1932, in Dallas Texas to Charles Herbert Sr. and Anna Doris Hayden. Charlie served in the Navy as a photographer after graduating Centenary College of Shreveport, LA. Charlie then completed his Doctorate of Dental Surgery at Loyola University, New Orleans LA in 1959 and later obtained a Masters of Public Health from University of California, Berkeley. He was a commissioned officer for the U.S. Public Health Service where he served as Dental Director. After 21 years of service he retired his commission in 1984. His passion included many things, but mostly those of the mind. He enjoyed listening to classical music and was an avid reader. Charlie was a lover of Cajun cuisine and prepared many meals for family and friends, and loved to share a bound copy of his favorite recipes.
He leaves his wife of 44 years, Garnet B Hayden; three daughters, Joan M Cox and husband Doug, Janet L Hayden, and Cheryl L Gordon and husband David. He also leaves five grandchildren; Samantha N Hayden, Sydney L Gordon, and Hayden, Matthew, Kristen Cox. Charlie was welcomed into heaven by his parents and granddaughter, Lisa. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Funeral services will be 12:00 PM Thursday, April 12, 2007 at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park. Visitation will be prior to services beginning at 11:00am.
