Charles Kindred, age 96 of Prairie Village, Ks, died July 7, 2012. A Memorial Service will be held at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel on July 15, 2012 at 2 PM.
Charles was born in Smithville, Mo, November 1, 1915, the oldest of four children to Elizabeth and Collins C. Kindred. He attended the Smithville schools while working on the family farm and in his father's Chevrolet Agency. He was a music instructor, playing both reed and brass instruments and also directed the Smithville town band.
Charles attended Central Missouri University and William Jewell College in Liberty where he was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity. He moved to Kansas City and worked for the Kansas City Life Insurance Co., while attending the Kansas City Law School. He received his Dr of Law Degree from UMKC. He was a member of the Missouri Bar and the Kansas City Lawyers Association. He worked for 35 years for Aetna Life and Causality until his retirement.
Charles was a 25 year member of the Central Shepherd Center where he served s a program director and teacher. He served as Assistant State Director of AARP. Living history was his favorite volunteer activity. He took his 30 LB box of homemade toys from schools and senior centers, telling about life in the country in the 1920's.
Mr. Kindred is survived by his wife, Wilma of 68 years, their three daughters: Sandra Jester and husband Charles of Chesterfield, Mo: Karen Kindred-Culbertson and husband Donald of Olathe, Ks and Elizabeth McCalmon and husband Mark of Overland Park, Ks. One brother Collins F. Kindred of Smithville, Mo, and two sisters: Frances Durham of Dearborn, Mo and Joan Beatty of Cameron, Mo. Five grandchildren and their spouses and 14 great grandchildren. A host of nieces and nephews and friends. Charles loved life, nature and humor.
