Charles Lamm

April 26, 1925 — April 26, 2014

Charles Alfred Lamm, 89, of Overland Park, Kansas, died Saturday, April 26, 2014, at the Kansas City Hospice House.

Charles, "Fred" as he was known to his childhood friends and family, was born on January 29, 1925 to Emil and Zelma Lamm of Afton, Oklahoma. He would spend most of his childhood helping around his father's hardware store in town. He graduated from Afton High School in 1943. That same year, he and his twin brother Bob would enlist in the United States Army Air Force where he served as a Radio Operator on B-24's in World War II. He would later be honorably discharged in March of 1946 after attaining the rank of Corporal.

With a lifelong love of "Big Band" music he graduated in 1952 from the University of Kansas with a Master's degree in Music which would place him as Music Director at the Haskell Indian Nations University just down the street in Lawrence, Kansas. He would teach there from 1953 until 1963 describing the school as, "Great school, Great students and the most fun I ever had in my life." While attending KU, he would meet the love of his life, Ann Angle, of Kansas City, MO, whom he wed in 1952. They greatly enjoyed raising their three children over the course of their lifetime. He worked for the Dept. of Agriculture from 1963 until 1972 in both Kansas City and Washington, D.C. His love for flying would later call him to work for the Federal Aviation Administration until he retired in 1993.

After retiring, 6 years would pass and the love of his life, Ann passed away in 1999, his brother, Bob, soon after in 2003. He would spend the last years of his life spending time with his family and looking after his grandchildren.

His health would later deteriorate which would bring his family to be at his bedside during the last weeks of his life and at his time of death. He took great joy in seeing and hearing his family together having fun. Knowing that he is no longer suffering and happy to be with Ann and his family in heaven, we would like to thank the dedicated staff of St. Luke's South Hospital and the Kansas City Hospice House. Their dedicated work round the clock wouldn't have made his peaceful transition possible.

Charles is preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Ann Angle, of Overland Park; brother, Robert "Uncle Bob" Lamm, of Tulsa, OK; and parents, Zelma and Emil, of Afton OK.

Survivors include his son, James Lamm and his wife Glenda and their children, Jackson and Sophie, all of Overland Park; daughter, Diane Pritchett and her husband, Jon Pritchett and their children, Jake, Kelli, and Hudson; and daughter, Kristi Klepper and her son, Charlie, of Overland Park.
