Charles E. McMahill, 85, of Overland Park, Kan., died Tuesday, September 18, 2007, of complications from a car accident on July 24, 2007.
Charles was born in Kidder, Mo., on Oct. 30, 1921. After graduating from Cameron High School, he spent a few years in California, then back to Missouri. Charles and Helen celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in February of this year with family and friends. He and Helen enjoyed traveling to all 50 states and 17 foreign countries. He served in the Army during World War II and received a Disability Discharge. He was a member of the American Legion and Disabled Army Veterans. He was a member of First Calvary Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday School for several years. He was an Assistant Boy Scout Leader of Troop #78 and a member of the Tribe of Mic-o-say. He also enjoyed working in his yard and with flowers. He retired from PurtainBennett Corp. in 1990, then worked part-time several years for Strasser Hardware, retiring again in 2004. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Helen; son, Don McMahill of Overland Park; daughter, Kay Boyd and husband Mike, of Overland Park; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Stroke Foundation, 5960 Dearborn St., Mission, Kansas 66202. Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 21, at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf. Visitation will begin an hour prior to services.
