C.W. (Bill) Powell, 88, Overland Park, passed away Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at Overland Park Nursing and Rehab Center.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, Kansas. Visitation will be held the evening prior from 6-8 P.M., also at the chapel. Interment in Johnson County Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Heart of America Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.
Bill was born May 6, 1921 in Kansas City, Kansas. He served in the Navy Seabees during WWII in Okinawa. Following his discharge he moved to the Kansas City area and in 1951 he and his wife Mae moved to the current family home in Overland Park. Bill was active with his 2 sons in baseball, cub scouts, and boy scouts. He retired as a construction superintendent in 1986. He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Prairie Village. During his retirement years he was an active member of the Overland Trailblazers seniors club and the Prairie Dogs Camping Club.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Mae and a sister and brother. He is survived by his two sons; Russell (Sharon) of Olathe, KS and Charley (Jean) of Wichita, KS; 5 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Juanita Cadwallader of Branson, MO. Arrangements: D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Johnson County Chapel. 913-451-1860
