Dr. Charles Stuckey

April 21, 1941 — February 4, 2015

Dr. Charles E. Stuckey, 73, of Lenexa passed away at his home on Wednesday February 4, 2015. Charlie was born April 21, 1941 to the late Neva and Charles S. Stuckey of Centerville, OH. He graduated from Centerville High in 1959. After graduation, he attended Harvard where he earned his undergraduate degree in 1964. Charlie received his medical degree from the University of Nebraska in 1968 and from there joined the US Navy. He served his residency at the US Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, VA, then transferred to Millington Naval Hospital to serve as Commanding Officer. On November 3rd, 1979, he married his wife Jere and moved to Kansas City to begin their life together.

In Kansas, Charlie opened his general surgery practice in 1980; formed the Vein Clinic of Kansas City; chaired the managing owners of Quivira Medical Plaza Associates; acted as medical director of Blue Valley Hospital; and served as medical director of the Aesthetic Medical Centre for the past seven years. He was a special part of many lives, but most especially the lives of his cancer patients. Whenever a patient would ask, "how long will my surgery last," his answer was always, "as long as it takes to do a perfect job."

Of all his vocations and avocations, none challenged or pleased him more than farming. Nothing, other than family, made him happier. A devoted husband of 35 years, a father to five children, grandfather to 11, his pride in life was the legacy he now leaves. Executives and nurses; teachers and bankers; mothers and fathers; he claimed us all as his greatest accomplishment.

He loved sailing, horses, houses, hunting, and initials instead of names; coaching, solitaire, bourbon, bridge, travel, cooking and good food. He excelled as much in fine cuisine, as he did at making waffle sticks and fruit for his grandkids. He was a renaissance man and a true romantic. Perpetually shod in his iconic cowboy boots, he maintained a long-time love affair with all things cowboy, horse, and yellow lab. In these past two years of retirement, he and Jere traveled with friends to the Rhine Valley, Cancun, and France. For years, he was an active member and elder at Bethany Lutheran Church.

Charlie is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Jere; three daughters, Laura (Dan) Wells; Cathy (Jeff) Bird; and Amy (Paul) Person; and two sons, Brian (Renee) Stuckey and Charles D. (Sara) Stuckey; eleven vibrant grandchildren; and three sisters, Arlene J. Tansey; Karen K. Greco-Stuckey; and Linda (John) S. Holden; and a whole gaggle of nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, please direct any memorial contributions in his honor to either: Bethany Lutheran Church or Hunters Helping the Hungry, c/o Nebraska Game & Parks Commission, 2200 N 33rd St, PO Box 30370, Lincoln, NE 68503-0370.
