Tribute to Charles Worman: June 3, 1930-August 7, 2012

"What makes you happy?"

This was a question Charles Worman often prompted, likely over a martini, and your answer he would suggest, should be your compass for life decisions. Charles' pursuit of life – and the happiness and challenges that come alongside–were evident in everything he did. It is one of the greatest legacies Charles Rhea Worman leaves behind, after passing away Aug. 7, 2012, at the age of 82. A feisty German with humble roots in Meade, Kan., Charles – a father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend – found happiness in many ways, through his family and friends, be it traveling to the beaches of Normandy, jabbing on the golf course, defending his Democratic stance or sharing a martini and good conversation with one of six children or best friend, Louise. Charles attended Denver University, proudly served in the Korean War and helped pioneer the oil industry, working for more than 25 years as the manager of branded sales for Pester-Schaefer Oil Co./Derby Refining Co. Calling Wichita, Kan. and Des Moines home, Charles helped pave the domestic and international markets, serving lengthy terms on the National Oil Jobbers' board and opening distribution facilities in Russia and Aruba. Following retirement, family brought Charles to Kansas City, Kan., where he became the family nucleus for the past 15 years, demonstrating how to live a happy and meaningful life; and simultaneously root for the Jayhawks and Hawkeyes. Dad, Grampa, Chuck, C.R. – we love you very much, we'll miss you and cherish all of the wonderful memories. Charles is joining his wife, Frankie, and is survived by 38 family members, including six children and spouses, 21 grandchildren and spouses and five great grandchildren; as well as his best friend, Louise Jamison. Children include: Tracie Frauen and husband Steve; Brad Worman and wife Debbie; Christie Hanson and husband Mike; Doug Worman and wife Sue; Craig (Cy) Worman and wife Lori and Lisa Woolcott and husband Johnny. A Memorial Service will be held 2 PM, Monday, August 13, 2012 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 12251 Antioch Rd, Overland Park, KS 66213. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the American Lung Association. 1301 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, Suite 800, Washington, DC 20004 www.lung.org
