Mrs. Charlotte Schlemmer

Charlotte Reynolds Schlemmer, 101, passed away August 3, 2014, at Lakeview Village, Lenexa, Kansas. Mrs. Schlemmer was born in 1913 in North Platte, Nebraska, the daughter of Bert M. Reynolds and Jessie Blankenburg Reynolds. She was graduated from North Platte High School. She was an art major at San Diego State College in California and continued her art education at Chouinard Art Institute and Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles. She later studied Fashion Design at the San Francisco School of Fine and Applied Arts.
She married Donald Schlemmer in North Platte in 1935. They lived at various times in North Platte; Stuart, Iowa; Lincoln, Nebraska; Joliet, Illinois; Glen Ridge, New Jersey; Oak Park, Illinois and Roeland Park, Kansas before retiring in Lakeview Village in Lenexa, Kansas.
Mrs. Schlemmer was an accomplished amateur photographer and for a number of years presented slide shows before civic and social groups. Her pictures won numerous prizes in local and national competitions. Mrs. Schlemmer was a past member of the Kansas City Color Slide Club and the Kansas City Women's Club. She was a longtime volunteer worker in the George Washington Carver Well Baby Clinic. She was a world traveler concentrating on the Middle East and the Far East, capitalizing on the photographic opportunities presented by widely varying cultures.
Her husband of 72 years, Donald Schlemmer, passed away in 2008. She is survived by two sons, Dr. Roger Schlemmer and wife Pamela of Springfield, Missouri and Stuart Schlemmer of Mission, Kansas, as well as two granddaughters, Kate Watson of Dallas, Texas and Wendy Vena of Cherryvale, Kansas and two great-granddaughters.
She was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church, having transferred her membership to the Village Church in 1960.
Memorial services will be announced at a later date. Cremation with inurnment in the Johnson County Memorial Gardens Courtyard of Memories, 11200 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, Kansas. The family requests no flowers and suggests memorial contributions be made to Village Presbyterian Church, 6641 Mission Road, Prairie Village, Kansas or to Lakeview Village Foundation, 9100 Park, Lenexa, Kansas 66215.
