Dr. Chien Liu, 97, died peacefully on March 11, 2018, at home in Fairway, Kansas.
He was born on March 6, 1921, in Guangzhou, China. In 1947, he married Beatrice Kwong. From 1958 to 1991, Dr. Liu served as a Professor of Medicine and of Pediatrics at the University of Kansas Medical Center, where he founded the Division of Infectious Diseases. He received many awards for his teaching and research, including the title Master of the American College of Physicians.
He is predeceased by his wife Beatrice and is survived by their four children: Kim (Karen) Liu of Gardner, KS, Norman (Gloriann) Liu of San Luis Obispo, CA, Christine (Mike) Perkins of Louisville, CO, and Anthony (Jan) Liu of Fairway, KS; seven grandchildren: Kevin (Sofia) Liu, Shana (Scott) Poettker, Steffi and Mindy Perkins, and Ben, Beth, and Brian Liu; as well as five great-grandchildren: Silvia Liu, and Kavyn, Leianna, Jaina, and Corran Poettker.
A visitation will be held 5:00-8:00 PM on Thursday, April 19, 2018, at the Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, KS. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 20, 2018, at Village Presbyterian Church, 6641 Mission Road, Prairie Village, KS.
