Christel E. Tanquary, 93, of Overland Park, Kansas passed away October 13, 2011. A gathering to remember and celebrate her life will be Wednesday, October 19 at 3:00pm (service at 3:30pm) at D.W. Newcomer's Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, Kansas. Christel was born October 8, 1918 in Maysville, Missouri. She grew up protected by three older brothers: Ivan, Harold, and Earl in Trenton, Missouri. She graduated from Northeast Missouri State College with a degree in English and taught high school for a time. She met her husband, Norman, while learning to drive trucks for the Red Cross during the War. They lived in Prairie Village where they were active in the Village Church and raised three children. Together, they started a screen printing company in 1954, which still operates today in Kansas City, Missouri. Christel lived life fully enjoying camping, hiking, gardening, golfing, dancing, reading, playing bridge and many other activities. She especially enjoyed her many friendships and clubs. She was particularly interested in and quite knowledgeable of Oriental art and keepsakes. Christel was preceded in death by her brothers, parents-Clarence and Amelia Ebbe, and her husband Norman and daughter Kara Lee. She is survived by a daughter Kristen Jolly (Jack) and son Kevin (Nancy). She is also survived by two grandsons- Michael Jolly and Gregory Tanquary. The family is grateful for the loving care Christel received at The Court at Overland Park, an Alzheimer's and Memory Care Home.
