Christopher Kemp
September 3, 1934 — March 23, 2014
Dr. Christopher Kemp went on his last adventure March 23, 2014, from complications due to Parkinson's Disease. Dr. Kemp was professor emeritus at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, MO.
For his doctorial studies, Dr. Kemp did an extensive study on Native American Tribes. A few of the tribes were The Crow, Mescalero Apache, Navajo, Cheyenne and Blackfeet. At the time of Dr. Kemp's studies, he also was allowed to study at Taos Pueblo. At the time, he was only the 2nd Non Native American allowed to study at Taos Pueblo. Dr. Kemp also did extensive field work in Central America.
Dr. Kemp was a former member of the Army Green Berets Special Forces and Special Operations. He was a lifelong member of the Special Forces/Special Operations Associations. Dr. Kemp became an avid Martial Artist and instructor of Judo, Kendo and Jiu Jitsu.
Dr. Kemp was an amazing and brilliant man. He enjoyed an adventurous life not only through his actual travels and studies but also though reading and research.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years Peri Kemp, two sisters, Marlene (Mike) Pener, Jackie (Jack) Bissell, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at Sharon Lane Nursing Home for the wonderful care they gave him for ten years and Crossroads Hospice for their dedication to him these last 8 months.
There will be a Memorial Gathering, Saturday, April 5 from 1:00-3:00pm at Matt Ross Community Center 8101 Marty St. Overland Park, KS. Afterward there will be a private dispersing of the ashes.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Parkinson's Research, the Wounded Warrior Project or to Crossroads Hospice.
