Claire Marley, 22, Overland Park, passed away on Wednesday April 26, 2017. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday May 2, 2017 with reception following at Asbury United Methodist Church, 5400 W. 75th Street, Prairie Village. Memorial contributions in memory of Claire may be given to Unleashed Pet Rescue, 5918 Broadmoor St., Mission, KS. 66202.
Claire was born April 6, 1995 in Merriam, Kansas. She grew up in Shawnee and graduated from Shawnee Mission Northwest High School in 2013. Claire was active in track and went to State all four years of high school. She enjoyed soccer and had a passion for photography leading to her being awarded the “Shooting Stars Award” for her work in 2013 along with being selected for the Nelson-Atkins Photography Scholars Program the same year. Her art was judged at the Annual Student Scholarship Exhibition resulting in an award of an Art Scholarship at KU in 2016. After graduating from high school, Claire went to the Massachusetts College of Art and Design and was currently attending KU. Claire was an expert snow skier from an early age, volunteered at Unleashed, a rescue haven for dogs, and just last year she and her father participated in the “Bike Across Kansas”. She was a member of Valley View United Methodist Church and in February transferred her membership to Asbury.
Claire was preceded in death by her grandfather, Dr. Robert C. Harder. She is survived by her parents, Dennis and Anne; brother, Eric; grandparents: Ed and Mary Ann Marley and Dorothy Lou Harder; her uncles and aunts: James Harder, Julia Tetuan, Jonell Agent, Carl Marley, Eugene Marley and her faithful dog companion, Teluci.
