Clarence, a resident at Brookdale Senior Living since 2014, died peacefully, in his sleep, Tuesday morning, August 23, 2016, in residence. He was born June 22, 1923 in Ruth, Michigan, the son of Otto and Margaret Ninke.  During WW II he served in the U. S. Naval Reserve, while working for the Federal Aviation Association as an electronic engineer.  He also served in the Kansas Air National Guard.
One of his greatest joys was flying and he held his pilot license into his 70’s. He was an active member of the Kansas Civil Air Patrol and retired as a Lt. Colonel.  He was a long time member of the U. S. Air Force Association and the U. S Navy Memorial.
He loved traveling all over the world and was an avid sports fan.  He was a Nebraska Cornhusker, through and through, but he also rooted for Kansas State and the University of Kansas.
He retired from the Federal Aviation Association as a Sector Manager after 37 years of service. He had worked in Afghanistan, with their air force and, after retiring, he privately contracted to do similar work with the Kuwaiti military.
Clarence was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of seventeen years, Liliane Rene Ninke, and his seven siblings and their spouses.  He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Twyman and Anita Hampshire, of Independence MO, and his daughter and son-in-law, Marguerite and Larry Barbato, of Republic MO.
He was a loving and kind grandfather to his six grandchildren, his seven great-grandchildren and his two great-great grandsons.  He was also greatly loved and enjoyed by his many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Services, for Clarence will be held Tuesday, August 30th at Bethany Lutheran Church, 9101 Lamar Avenue, Overland Park, KS. Visitation will be at 9 a.m. with the service to follow at 10 a.m.  He will be laid to rest, next to his wife, at the Johnson County Memorial Gardens in Overland Park.
