Constance H. (Connie) DeSieghardt, 91, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2014, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center. Connie was born on November 13, 1922, in Camden, New Jersey, and was the only child of Florence and Arja Hopkins. She was the valedictorian of the Class of 1939 at Audubon High School in New Jersey. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Ursinus College, and a Master’s Degree from the University of Pennsylvania. She met her husband of 63 years, Fred, when she was an English teacher and he was an Applied Biology and Agriculture teacher at Burlington (New Jersey) High School.
Connie was devoted to her family and her church, Knox Presbyterian, Overland Park. She sang in church choirs for more than 50 years, was a part of Church Women United, and the Women’s Association, and was an ordained Elder in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). She loved to travel, play bridge, and entertain (and be entertained by) her granddaughters. She was also a sought after book reviewer, and made many a presentation to local civic groups.
She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Fred, and her son, Fred, both of the home; her son, Ken, wife Sara Beals, and granddaughters Aislinn and Áine of Stilwell.
A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m., August 28, at Knox Presbyterian Church, 9595 W 95th Street, Overland Park, 66212. A reception will follow immediately after the service.
