Cynthia had a brother, Capt. Charles (San Juan) Dunbar, and a sister Susan.
Her father loved to sail with the family and these were Cynthia’s fondest memories of childhood. Her family also owned a beach home in Ocean Park, ME where they spent time with extended family.
Cynthia excelled in academics and graduated from Manhasset High School as a National Merit Scholar. Upon graduation she sailed the Queen Elizabeth II, spending the summer in Europe.
She then attended Bryn Maur College (Bryn Maur, PA), where she studied art and art history in addition to singing in the Princeton University Choir. In her senior year (1956), she met her future husband, John B. Snyder. John was in his last year of his master’s at the Wharton School of Finance and Commerce. Although Cynthia worked in the banking industry, her passion was in decorating. Her mind was so creative. She made all her surroundings more beautiful with fine antiques, color, flowers, art, furniture and most of all with her love.
Cynthia fought a valiant battle with Huntington’s Disease. She never lost her dignity and never complained once about her illness. She lived her last three years at Brookdale Assisted Living (Overland Park, KS) loving on all her aides, nurses, and neighbors. Her beauty then showed through her love for others. She saw the best in everyone with a very forgiving spirit wanting only peace in her world.
With gratitude, Cynthia kissed the hands of all her caregivers leaving all those around her lifted by her love.
