Dale Wayne Harkin

Dale Wayne Harkin, of Overland Park, Kansas, born on April 25th, 1936, to the late Veva Maxine and William Owen Harkin, passed away at home, at age 87 on November 4^th, 2023.  He was born in Pleasantville, Iowa and graduated from Pleasantville High School in 1954.  He is survived by his son Bradley Harkin and daughter-in-law Gina, and great-granddaughter Desiree of Kansas City, Kansas, daughter Brenda Fonseca and son-in-law Danny Fonseca of Lenexa, Kansas, nephew Mike Calhoun, nieces Shelley DeForest and Chrissy Cox of Pleasantville, Iowa, as well as many loving great nieces and nephews.  Upon graduation from high school in 1954, he enlisted into the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1958.  He was first employed at Bakers Shoes Store in Davenport, Iowa where he met his wife of 53 years, Jo Anne, while she was shopping for a pair of shoes for a family picnic.  They were married in Washington, Iowa on June 27, 1965.  After several years working for Bakers, he was transferred to the Kansas City Area, where he remained with them until he retired in 1999.  He wasn’t retired for long before getting back to work with Men’s Warehouse and finally retiring once and for all in 2020.  Family and friends were most important to Dale and he will be remembered as someone who always put a big smile on everyone’s face with his witty phrases and corny jokes.  Visitation will be held at 1:00 pm, funeral services at 2:00 pm and burial services at 3:00 pm, all taking place at Johnson County Funeral Chapel and Memorial Gardens at 11200 Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park, Kansas, 66210.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to American Legion Post 370 and/or the American Heart Association.
