Dale Kesl D.O.

September 6, 1955 — March 23, 2016

Dale Kesl, 60, of Liberty, MO, passed away Wednesday, March 23, 2016, at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, MO after receiving a kidney transplant.

Dale was raised in Helena, Arkansas from humble beginnings and he graduated from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in 1978 with a double major in Biology and Chemistry.  After college, Dale obtained his Doctorate of Osteopathy from the University of Health Sciences (now Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences) in 1982.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 31 years, Peggy Church Kesl of Liberty, MO, their five children; Megan DeSpain of Prairie Village, KS (and her husband Ryan DeSpain), James Kesl of Liberty, MO (and his fiancé Erin Nickell), Matthew Kesl (and his fiancé Chelsea Batsel) of Troy, MO, Abigail Kesl of Columbia, MO and Allison Kesl of Liberty, MO.  He is also survived by his two grandchildren; Evelyn Kesl of Liberty, MO and Harvey Kesl of Liberty, MO, his father; James Kesl, Sr. of West Helena, AR, his stepmother; Bertafaye Kesl of West Helena, AR, and his sister; Sue Corder of West Helena, AR.

He was preceded in death by his two grandchildren; Charlie DeSpain and Emma DeSpain, his mother; Gwendolyn Cole, his grandmother; Louvinia Guthrie, and his stepbrother; Tommy Kesl.

Dale dedicated his entire life to two passions.  His family and practicing medicine were his two proudest accomplishments.  He attacked both with a fierce loyalty and devotion that was unmatched.  Simply put, Dale loved being a husband, father, grandfather and physician.

Dale enjoyed hunting, fishing, and music while growing up and shared that love with his children in the early years.  Providing for his family was an immense point of pride for him.  Regardless of the situation, Dale was always there for his children.  He wanted them all to have experiences and opportunities that he was never exposed to during his own childhood.

Whether it was a movie, a dinner or casually hanging out at home with his family and his dogs, Dale was happiest when he was with his family.  His wife and best friend, Peggy, remained by his side caring for him until the end.  One thing he constantly said to his children when Peggy was walking towards the car; “You see that woman there, she loves you more than anything in this world and I wouldn’t be here without her.”

He loved his wife and children and they will honor him by continuing that love for each other for the rest of their lives.

His love of family spilled over into his professional life, as well.  Serving the community by helping as many people as possible was Dale’s mission.   He worked countless hours and was available to his patients at all times, always making sure they had access to his personal phone.

These are lessons that he instilled in his teaching.  He loved teaching future physicians.  He always had a medical student with him and took great pride in contributing to their education.  The countless hours spent in that pursuit will leave a lasting legacy as those physicians go out into the world and continue to pass on his knowledge.

He will always be an inspiration to those in the medical field as a champion for patient care.  Dale cared for his patients at a level that is rarely seen in today’s world.  The medical community will miss the doctor, Dale Kesl.  But his wife, children, grandchildren and his many friends will miss the man, Dale Kesl, even more..
