Dale Lundhigh

February 13, 1923 — January 18, 2018

Dale Harvey Lundhigh, 94, passed away January 18, 2018, at his home from a broken heart, after recently losing his wife, Martha, just shy of their 71st wedding anniversary.  He was born in Prescott, Iowa on February 13th, 1923 to Alfred and Faustess Lundhigh. As a young man, he enjoyed playing jazz in the little honky tonks around Prescott. He then served in the 90th Infantry Division during World War II, receiving 3 bronze stars. Dale made sure to return home to marry his darling Martha. He spent many years taking his young bride on adventures all across the country, never forgetting to snap the most beautiful photographs. In 1959, Dale and Martha built their forever home in Overland Park where they raised their daughters, Marci Lundhigh and Jan O’Dell, making the most wonderful place to call home. Dale adored his grandchildren, Megan Hickman, Derek O’Dell, and Jamie O’Dell and great-grandsons, Ellison and Calvin Dale Hickman as well as the significant others who joined his family, Dennis O’Dell, Chad Hickman, Jennifer Kastens, and Leina Rogers. Dale is also survived by his sister Claudine Bixler (Sam) and sister-in-law Betty Lundhigh (Sam). Dale left us with amazing memories, a published book about his service in the army, wonderful paintings, and an art studio full of treasures that document his life. Donations can be made in Dale’s honor to Warrior’s Ascent (https://www.warriorsascent.org/).
