Dale Stewart

September 25, 1924 — January 20, 2015

Dale Neville Stewart, 90, of Overland Park Kansas, died Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at home.  Dale was born on September 25, 1924 in Cape Girardeau, MO to the late James and Jewell Stewart.  After graduating from Central High School in Cape Girardeau, Dale enlisted in the United States Army Air Corp where he served as a radio gunner on the B17 “The Joker” and executed his first mission on D – Day.   For his brave service Dale was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal and was recognized by the governments of Poland, France and Russia for his efforts.  Following his honorable discharge from military service Dale went on to Graduate from the University of Missouri with a degree in business.  Following graduation Dale began his career with Commonwealth Theaters as a relief projectionist.  He would go on to retire from Commonwealth more than 50 years later as President & CEO.  Dale is a former member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Blue Hills Country Club, and the Variety Club.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents James Dallas Stewart and Jewell (Horn), four siblings and his grandson Jack Stewart.  Dale is survived by his loving wife of 66 years Mary (McCawley) Stewart of Overland Park; sons, James “Mac” Stewart and wife Patty of Dallas, and Patrick Stewart and wife Ann of Dallas; daughters, Mary Bridget Stewart of Overland Park, and Ann Frances Stewart of Kansas City.  He is also survived by three grandsons and numerous nieces and nephews.
