Dallas A. Johnson, M.D., 74, of Stilwell, Kan., died January 19, 2011, after a brave battle with pancreatic cancer. A celebration of his life will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, in the Wesley Covenant Chapel at the Church of the Resurrection, 13720 Roe Avenue, Leawood, KS 66224. Dallas is survived by his beloved wife of 32 years, Vicki S. Kofender, M.D. of the home, his children, Michelle C. Pruitt and her husband David of Broken Arrow, Okla., Bruce W. Johnson of Peculiar, Mo., and Dana M. Ball and her husband Tom of Austin, Texas. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Jessica, Ian, Tyler, Angela, Emily, Whitney and Griffin. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. William A. and Hazel F. Johnson. Dallas was born Sept. 29, 1936, in Alden, Iowa. He was raised in Iowa Falls, Iowa, and attended the University of Iowa and University of Iowa Medical School. He served three years as a ship's doctor in the US Navy stationed in San Diego, Calif., before completing his residency at UTMB in Galveston, Texas. He practiced dermatology in Kansas City for 40 years before retiring. Dallas had two great loves in his life, his family and the practice of dermatology. A true renaissance man, he loved nature, travel, scenic road trips and the ocean. He also enjoyed sailing, skiing, trains, reading, and World War II history.
