Dallas Ann (Johnson) Lockwood

Dallas Ann Lockwood, age 78, of Overland Park passed away on July 24th at KU Medical Center surrounded by loved ones.

Dallas was born November 6, 1940 in Lincoln, Nebraska.  She graduated from Shawnee Mission North High School and continued her education for 2 more years at Iowa State University where she met her husband Larry Lockwood.  They married in 1960, moving to the Kansas City area shortly after.

Dallas devoted much of her talents and time to her husband, children, grandchildren and many volunteer organizations.  She was creative and an excellent seamstress.  She made dance costumes, clothing, band and choir uniforms, bridal gowns and dresses, etc...  She was President of Women’s Ministry at her church for 3 years and President of the Band Parents at Shawnee Mission North for 10 years.

Dallas was active in Camp Fire (Sunflower Council).  Important roles in the Sunflower Council included Camp Fire Leader, Board of Directors, Chairman of Training, Bicentennial Chairman and Special Events Chairman. She designed and coordinated large events such as the Sunflower Council’s Bicentennial Celebration and Camp Fire’s 75th birthday Celebration and led Camp Fire girls in the painting of fire hydrants of historical figures. She was recipient of Camp Fire Volunteer of the Year Award in 1976; Volunteer of the Year Nominee in 1986 and the Gulick Award.

After 25 years of involvement with the Sunflower Council, Dallas joined Community Bible Study in Overland Park.  New relationships emerged and she had a new faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.  Dallas was a Core Leader, Core Leader Facilitator, Children’s Director and Teaching Director for many years.  She was beautiful inside and out, always putting others before herself.  She greeted everyone with a smile and affection.  She did not know a stranger.  Her love was felt by everyone around her.
