Dallas Harold New, 83, died October 27, 2012, at his home surrounded by family in Olathe, Kansas. Dallas was born December 2, 1928, to Harold and Viola New in Boulder, Colorado. He attended Boulder High School.
He enlisted in the Army and served in the Korean War and earned Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars and the United Nations Service Medal.
He met JoAnne Augusta Boehm in 1954. They were married on December 17, 1955. Dallas and JoAnne enjoyed listening and dancing to Big Band music and playing pinochle with friends. Dallas earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of Colorado - Boulder in May of 1955. He went on to work on his Masters in Chemistry. Afterward, he was employed by the Food and Drug Administration for 37 years before retiring. He attained the role of Supervisory Chemist. He continued his friendships gained while working after his retirement.
Dallas and JoAnne provided their children and grandchildren with a strong faith. They were members of Evangelical United Brethern Church in Boulder, Colorado; Aldersgate United Methodist in Detroit, Michigan; Bonner Springs United Methodist Church in Bonner Springs, Kansas; and Grace United Methodist Church in Olathe, Kansas.
He leaves an adoring family with a legacy of unconditional love, and also with a great respect for his sharp intellect and independent opinions. He was predeceased by his parents, Harold and Viola New of Boulder, Colorado and his daughter, Candace New, of Detroit, Michigan. Dallas is survived by a loving wife JoAnne New; two sisters – LaVonne Swanson, Sacramento, California and Mary Anne Vail, Grand Junction, Colorado – and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by four children and their spouses - DeAnne and Paul Wasleske, Olathe, Kansas; Holly Hall, Olathe, Kansas; Greg and Pam New, Edmond, Oklahoma; and Shawna and Jeremy Hart, Kansas City, Kansas and by six grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Grace United Methodist Church on November 17, 2012 at 11 a.m. The family will receive visitors from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made in Dallas' name to Odyssey Healthcare, 8735 Rosehill Road, Lenexa, KS 66215.
