Daniel J. Harpool, 51, of Grain Valley, MO passed away Saturday, October 25, 2008.
Dan was born on May 28, 1957 to John and Maxine Harpool in Rogers, Arkansas and was preceded in death by his mother, Maxine Harpool, his father, John Harpool and a brother, Michael Harpool.
Dan is survived by his friend and former wife of 12 years, Laura Smyser; his step children Rob and Jessica Smyser; brothers: David (Shirley), Jim (Nancy Pede), Charlie (Michelle) and Arthur (Laurie); sisters: Patsy and Kristine Harpool; nieces: Sharri, Brittany, Stephanie, Rebekah, and Emily and nephews: Michael, Scott, Aaron and Andrew. Dan also leaves behind his best friend, Greg Nelson.
Dan was generous with a very kind heart. He was always looking out for others. He loved his step children dearly, had a very soft spot for kids and was a kid at heart. Dan enjoyed showering his nephews and nieces with love, humor and lots of fun. They will miss their Uncle Dan dearly. Dan loved country music and songs from his Jimmy Buffet collection.
Dan was an avid sports and KC Chiefs fan. He enjoyed sharing his love for outdoor sports with family and friends, especially water sports at the home he had shared with Laura in Lake Lotawana and at Jim?s lake house in Tonganoxie. Dan took many fishing trips, but one of his favorites was the trip he took to Canada with Jim, Nancy and Brittany. He loved spending time with all his brothers and sisters. He loved golfing with Charlie, visiting the Oregon coast with Arthur and learning how to scuba dive with David. As the youngest brother, he enjoyed being loved by his sisters and teased mercilessly by all his siblings. Dan was also a passionate golfer; he loved the annual golf event with his former co-workers at Sprint and his annual trek with golfing buddies to Joplin, MO and Myrtle Beach, FL.
Dan began his career as a computer programmer/IT specialist in Ketchikan, Alaska after obtaining a degree in Computer Programming at Western Business College. He most recently worked as a computer programmer at OOIDA (Owner Operated Independent Drivers Association) in Grain Valley, MO. Dan loved his work, and always tried to develop the best programs possible.
