DANNY L. SLAUGHTER SR., 63, Olathe, KS passed away Monday, January 9, 2012 at the Olathe Medical Center in Olathe, KS.
He was born December 9, 1948 through the union of Cyrus and Frankie (Portee) Slaughter of Decatur, Illinois. He graduated from Dwight D. Eisenhower High School in Decatur, IL and attended college in Indiana. A veteran of the Vietnam War and a recipient of the Bronze Star Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Air Medal and other commendations.
A faithful active member and leader at the Lenexa Christian Center in Lenexa, KS; served on the City of Lenexa Community Service Board where he was awarded a Key to the City and inducted in the Lenexa Volunteer Hall of Fame.
He leaves cherished fond memories with his loving and devoted wife, Sandra (Brack) Slaughter; a son, Danny L. Slaughter Jr. and wife, Gill of Wellington, New Zealand; a daughter, Tanisha L. Slaughter-Frith and husband, Leonard Frith of Overland Park, KS; three loving grandchildren, Jessica and Justin Slaughter, and Jaxon Frith all of Overland Park, KS; a brother, Carl Slaughter and his wife, Fanny of Decatur, IL; two sisters, Betty Taylor and her husband Curtis and Eva Sain and her husband Boust all of Decatur, IL; sister-in-laws, Lorna Vincent James, Glendale Jarrett, Earlee Brack all of Seattle, WA., Donna Wilder, Phyllis Slaughter of Decatur, IL; a brother-in-law, Raymond McDougal of Decatur, IL; and many nieces; nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Irene Guthrie and Ruth McDougal; and a brother, Thomas Slaughter Sr.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 12, 2012 at the Lenexa Christian Center, 17500 W. 87th Street Parkway, Lenexa, KS 66219. Interment will follow at the Leavenworth National Cemetery, 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 13, 2012. Memorial contributions to Olathe Medical Center, Critical Care Unit.
