Darlene Carlson Wahlstedt, age 82, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, passed away on December 24th, 2014, peacefully and in the presence of her loving and devoted children, Linda and Clay.
Darlene was born Darlene Maddox, in Nebraska, on December 14th, 1932, to Jude and Mamie Maddox.
Darlene was raised in Prairie Village and attended Shawnee Mission North High School. She spent her happiest years in the neighborhood of Northwood Acres in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with her beloved husband Edgar Carlson, raising her two children Linda and Clay while working at Wyland Elementary School. She returned to Kansas City in 1976 where she worked at the firm of Nofsinger and Greb X-Ray. Darlene was empathetic and giving by nature, and cherished all her extended family. We remember with joy her kindness, thoughtfulness, compassion, dark sense of humor, zest for life, and love of Dachshunds Cocoa, Morgan, and Tyler. We remember her selfless devotion to those she loved along with the values she exemplified and instilled in her children. “How can I help?” or “What can I do for you?” were her watchwords through the years. She will be cherished, beloved, and in her children’s thoughts always.
She was preceded in death by her husband Edgar Carlson in 1975 and her loving brother Leroy Maddox.
Darlene is survived by her loving husband Robert Wahlstedt, sister Maxine Stevens, and her two children Linda and Clay Carlson.
A indoor graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm on April 3rd, 2015 at the Johnson County Memorial Gardens Courtyard of Memories, 11200 Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park, Kansas.
