Dave Stoltzfus

November 24, 1936 — September 17, 2020

David S. (Dave) Stoltzfus, 83, passed away on September 17, 2020, with his family by his side. David was born on November 24, 1936 at Leacock Township, Pennsylvania to Abram Eshinger Stoltzfus and Priscilla Stoltzfus. Dave was the youngest of 12 children born to this couple.  Dave was raised Amish but left that faith to join the Marines because he was such a patriot. Dave was proud of his military service, including his two tours in Vietnam, and was in charge of the security detail for the Ambassador to Guatemala when he was stationed there by the State Department.   He retired from the Marines as a Master Sargent, then joined the Reserves and subsequently retired with the rank of Captain.

Dave had a successful career as a general contractor and home remodeler. The skills he learned growing up on a farm served him very well in life.  He had attention to detail and took pride in his work, always leaving the work site clean and neat. He remodeled many restaurants and became a Sushi aficionado after one job. Dave lived a full life. He enjoyed a drink, a good joke, and time spent with family and friends.

Dave had many hobbies, including camping, boating, feeding the birds, landscaping and cooking. He loved to barbeque and built a smoker in this back yard and bought a mobile smoker to participate in many barbeque contests. He cooked for events at the American Legion and the VFW where he was a member.  Dave was generous with this time and food. He enjoyed cooking for parties and sharing the food he cooked. Dave gave away many freshly baked pies, pies baked from scratch!

Dave loved animals and was a friend to any child. He loved giving treats to pets and children. He was a loving husband, son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. He loved Jesus and had faith in God.

Dave suffered from many ailments later in life and was very grateful for the exceptional care he received from the many doctors and nurses at Advent Health Shawnee Mission. His final days were made more comfortable by the Compassionate Care Hospice of Kansas.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents and siblings. He is survived by his wife, Linda Stoltzfus, daughters, Audrey Stoltzfus and Janet Rosenow, son-in-law James Rosenow,  step-daughter, Deborah Crumply and husband Bob Crumply, grandchildren, Jesse Furst,  Anna Furst, Jake Nelson, Jaime Nelson, great grandchildren, Jax and Jayde Nelson, his furry family, Maddy, Samson, Rose, Lilly and Daisy.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to LL Dog Rescue or Disabled American Veterans in memory of David S. Stoltzfus.
