David William Fearis, 74, born in Peoria, Illinois on October 14, 1946. The beloved husband of Lynn and father of Blaise, passed away on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 in Overland Park, Kansas. David graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Agronomy from Perdue University Turf Grass School. David started his Superintendents Career at the Country Club of Peoria, Illinois at the age of 23. In 1985, David accepted the role of Superintendent at Blue Hills Country Club and served in the capacity for 16 years. David Fearis, a 53 year GCSAA Member, served as Association President in 1999 and was The Director of Membership from 2004 to 2010. David served on the boards of The Heart of America, GCSAA and the Midwest Regional Turf Foundation and was President of The First Tee of Greater Kansas City in 2006 - 07. The Heart of America Chapter twice honored David with it’s Chester H. Mendenhall Award presented for Outstanding Service in the profession. David received GCSAA’s Col. John Morley Distinguished Service Award in 2016, and was inducted into the Kansas City Golf Hall of Fame in 2020. David was preceded in death by his parents, William and Bernice Fearis. He is survived by his wife, Lynn of the home, and his son, Blaise from Omaha, Nebraska. David will be forever remembered by his family, friends and life long golf relationships as the ultimate gentleman and your forever friend. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of KC , The First Tee of Greater KC and St. Michaels of the Archangel .
