David Brian Jensen, 59, passed away at home on October 26, 2019, surrounded by family. David, the youngest of seven children, was born in Littleton, Colorado on October 5, 1960 to Murial and Clarence Jensen. Shortly after he was born, David’s family moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota before settling in Boulder, Colorado. David traveled to nearly 40 states with his family while growing up. He graduated from Fairview High School in 1979 and obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering in 1983 from the Colorado School of Mines.
David was always a motivated and high-achieving engineer. In high school, he was voted most likely to succeed. During his senior year of college, he was awarded a prize for outstanding senior in petroleum engineering in addition to serving as the student body president. After college graduation, he began working at Superior Oil, where he met his future wife. David worked as a petroleum engineer for 36 years and obtained a Professional Engineer certification in Petroleum Engineering in 2018.
David married Kimberly Ann Crawford on February 15, 1986, and together they had 3 children, Mallory, Lauren, and Sarah. After spending several years in Denver, Colorado, Dave and his family relocated to Bakersfield, California, followed by Farmington, New Mexico and then Midland, Texas, before settling in Overland Park, Kansas in 1998. David enjoyed coaching and attending his daughters’ sports games and activities and traveling the world with his friends and family. David’s life’s focus was spending time with his family. His proudest accomplishment was raising three wonderful daughters alongside his wife.
David touched many lives during his time with us. He was a devoted, loving, and supportive husband and father, and he was charitable to all those around him. His sense of humor permeated everything that he did – from work to family gatherings to facing his cancer diagnosis. He will be greatly missed, but his steadfast Christian faith provides comfort that he is in heaven. David is survived by his wife (Kim Jensen) and three daughters (Mallory Jensen, Lauren Jensen, and Sarah Jensen); his mother (Murial Jensen); and his six siblings (Marcia Monson, Craig Jensen, Doug Jensen, Paul Jensen, Chris Jensen, and Kristi Jensen). He was predeceased by his father (Clarence Jensen).
Memorial services will be held at Holy Cross Lutheran Church at 11 AM on Saturday November 2nd. A visitation with the family will precede the service at 10 AM with reception to follow. Memorial donations may be made in David’s name to Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Overland Park, Kansas, and the University of Kansas Cancer Center.
