David L. Kennedy, 54, Overland Park, KS passed away Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at St. Luke’s South Medical Center. Funeral service will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, October 24, 2009 at The Presbyterian Church of Stanley, 14895 Antioch Rd. Graveside service will be 3:00 P.M. Saturday afternoon at the Clements Cemetery, Chase County, KS. Friends may call from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Friday at D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Johnson County Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to Habitat for Humanity or Toys for Tots Marine Corps, in care of the funeral home.

David was born the son of Lewis Richard and Maybelle Berry Kennedy on November 19, 1954 in Wellington, KS. He was the Computer Lab Supervisor and an Adjunct Professor at Johnson County Community College. He was a CW03 in the Marine Corps retiring in 1996 after 20 years. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Stanley where he served as Deacon, Elder and Usher, a member of the Johnson County Affordable Housing Committee, served as past president and was the current newsletter editor and webmaster of the M.O.A.A. Sunflower Chapter and Kansas Counsel, and he was a Chairman of Leadership Olathe. He volunteered for Habitat for Humanity, Veteran’s Stand Down and was a Supervising Judge for the Johnson County Election Office.

Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Tonya Kennedy of the home, daughter, Amanda Kennedy, Overland Park, KS, brother, Larry Kennedy, Lawrence, KS, sister, Deanna Duncan, Bartlesville, OK, step-mother, Mavis Smith, Homewood, KS, stepbrother, Charley Leonard, Garnett, KS, stepsister, Cheryl Godinez, Ottawa, KS, his father and mother-in-law Gayland and Minnie Beth Park, Cottonwood Falls, KS,
