David Rorabaugh

June 10, 1935 — March 17, 2018

It is with great sadness that the family of David D. Rorabaugh announces his passing on Saturday, March 17, 2018, at the age of 82 years.

Born June 10, 1935 in Norton, Kansas he attended high school in Emporia, Kansas. It was here that he met the love of his life, Donna, and they were married on August 18, 1955 while David was attending Engineering classes at the University of Kansas. A proud Jayhawker (for life) David graduated with a Bachelor's Degree (with honors) in 1958. Upon leaving college, David spent 12 years in the Army Reserves as he built his civilian career plying his trade in Civil Engineering. David resigned as Captain in 1966. Power generation, transportation, milling, and numerous industries were the recipients of his exemplary design skills. Unwavering in his professional commitment to his trade and the importance of his work, his signature on engineering documents was hard won and signified safety and excellence in design.

After three years in Topeka and a brief stint in Oklahoma (Fort Sill), David and Donna settled in Overland Park during the early 1960’s. Soon thereafter began their family with the birth of Steven Rorabaugh in 1958 and Brian Rorabaugh in 1962. David volunteered his time as an Elder with the Disciples of Christ at the Overland Park Christian Church and later with the Hillcrest Christian Church. He donated his time to those needing a helping hand by teaching GED courses and working in the community with various church organizations.  A lifelong love of the bible and the teachings of Jesus Christ made him generous in spirit and willing to share his knowledge and skills. His faith made him an example of servant leadership to those around him.

David is preceded in death by his parents; Curtis Rorabaugh and Hazel (Jones) Rorabaugh.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Donna (Maxwell) Rorabaugh; sons, Steven Rorabaugh of Greeneville, South Carolina and Brian Rorabaugh (wife, Stacey); and beloved grandson, Drake Rorabaugh; all of Overland Park, Kansas.
