David Scott

January 29, 1927 — January 29, 2014

David Scott, 87, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at his home in Shawnee Hills Senior Living, Shawnee, KS. His wife, Joan, preceded him in death after 63 years of marriage, and his infant daughter, Kathryn Jean in 1958. He is survived by his children, Barbara, Jane, Ginny, Jack, and Doug (Amy), his grandsons, Jeff and Nick, one sibling, Peggy Hancock of Connersville, IN.

Born on a farm near Austin, MN, the youngest of 10 children, David spent most of his childhood in Rose Creek, MN. At the outset of World War II, his family moved to Minneapolis, where David completed high school before entering the Navy. He served aboard the U.S.S. Pruitt in the Pacific, and was honorably discharged at the rank of SM 3/C in 1946. Later that same year, he married Joan Satterlee, whom he had met during high school when the two of them worked as ushers at a downtown movie theater. David and Joan moved their young family to Overland Park, KS in 1962.

David was a true salesman, selling everything from insurance to appliances to real estates. After 21 years as one of Johnson County's leading sales producers in residential sales and management, David retired, spending many days on the golf links playing a game he had enjoyed for decades.

David and Joan had many wonderful and loving years together until Joan's death in 2010. They loved travels and shared 12 ocean cruises. Their travels also took them to Alaska, Hawaii, Canada, Mexico, Europe, the Caribbean and 48 of the 50 states.

A memorial service for David will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at the Shawnee Hills Senior Living Retirement, 6335 Maurer Road, Shawnee, KS 66217.
