David Taylor

David W. Taylor, 83 of Overland Park, KS, passed away Feb. 3, 2018 and rejoined his beloved wife, Karen (deceased 2008). His love and devotion for her never faded. Dad was a humble, kind and loving man with a good heart, especially for those less fortunate as he came from humble beginnings himself. COPD and heart failure made life very hard for him over the past few years, but he was strong in will and spirit. He was a faithful Christian, a member and volunteer of Church of The Resurrection. He enjoyed spending time in the yard, loved to cook (especially for others) and alerted us to all the best sales at the grocery stores. He also loved to travel, especially to the west coast and Europe, and was famous for planning trips he never took.

Dave was born in Jamesport, MO on Dec. 27, 1934 to Frank M. and Zella M. Taylor. He was the youngest of eight children, attended Rosedale High School and served in the United States Army from 1957-1959. He began a lifelong career with Union Pacific Railroad in 1953, working first as a Fireman and then as an Engineer until his retirement in 1990. He served on the Board of Brotherhood of Local Engineers, Division #81 as Secretary, Treasurer, Vice President and then President until he retired. He was owner of the Taylor School Bus Company which served the Kansas City North area in the late 1960’s through 1970. Dad worked tirelessly to provide a good life for all of us.

Family meant everything to Dad, as he did to us. He was a wonderful husband and father and the best Grandpa Dave. David is survived by two daughters and sons-in law, Sheryl & Gordon Bolton of Creston, IA and Janet & Gary Goss of Leawood, KS, four grandchildren Brian (Amy) Bolton & Rachael (Clint) Travis of Creston, IA, Scott (Andrew Priest) Goss of Los Angeles, CA and Kevin (Stacie) Bolton of Midland, VA and nine great grandchildren: Kaden, Jacob, Gracie, Gavin, Luke, Emma, Caleb, Madelyn and Levi. He also leaves two brothers, John Phillip Taylor and Richard Taylor. The family thanks his caring friends at Park Meadows Senior Living for adding friendship and laughter to his life in the last year.

Please join us as we honor David’s life at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 22nd at Johnson County Chapel & Memorial Gardens, 11200 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, KS.
