Mrs. Dawn (Bryan Betts

Dawn M. (Bryan) Betts, 47, died June 9, 2007, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, Mississippi, after her courageous four-year battle with cancer.
Dawn will forever be remembered in the hearts of her family as a dear wife, mother, daughter and sister. Dawn was known for always giving the extra mile to her students and could usually be found at most school events. Through her work, she touched many lives and taught others how to live a life with true character and strength. Dawn was born in Kansas City, Kansas to Don & Joyce Bryan on March 9, 1960. She graduated from Baker University in 1982 where she earned her degree in Biology and was president of her sorority, Zeta Tau Alpha. After graduating in 1982, she married her husband, Richard and moved to Ridgeland, Mississippi. Five years later, Dawn began her teaching career. She taught at Rowan Middle School for two years followed by nine years at Jim Hill High School and finally at Ridgeland High school where she was recognized as a truly inspirational teacher. Dawn was awarded Star Teacher in 2003 and High School Teacher of the Year in 2004 for Madison County. When she was diagnosed with cancer in 2003, she commented that helping start a new high school in Ridgeland was the best year of her life.
She is survived by her husband of 25 years, Richard; her two daughters, Stephanie and Carrie; her son, Christopher; her loving parents, Don and Joyce Bryan; her sister, Shelly Routh; her brother Brad Byran; her nephews Taylor and Noah Bryan; her nieces Katie and Abbey Routh and Annaleese Bryan and many wonderful friends and students.
Memorials may be made in Dawn's honor to the Ridgeland High School Senior Scholarship fund, 586 Sunnybrook Rd., Ridgeland, MS 39157.
Visitation will be Thursday June 14th from 2PM-3PM with funeral services at 3PM at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel 11200 Metcalf Overland Park, KS.
